Selwyn Bloome Obituary (1925 - 2012)

Selwyn Bloome, a mechanical engineer and consultant whose firm helped guide the first efforts of the United States government to construct its buildings with energy-efficient systems, died August 16, 2012, at his home in Columbus, Ohio. He was 87. Bloome, an army veteran, was known for an unwavering attention to detail while also designing the heating, cooling, air flow, electrical and other systems for large newspaper printing plants, synagogues, churches, and university and office buildings across the country. Later in life he and his wife turned their passions to dogs and ran Winterset Labradors where they bred, raised and showed them. Bloome married a schoolteacher, Enid, who preceded him in death along with his siblings Joseph Bloome and Marilyn Serif. He is survived by his sons David (Laurie Katz) Bloome, a professor at The Ohio State University, and Robert Bloome, a doctor in Florida; grandchildren Robby (Shannon) Bloome, Joshua (Amy Rosen) Bloomekatz, Rachel (Micah Berman) Bloomekatz and Ari Bloomekatz; great granddaughter Rebecca Bloome; sister-in-law Selda Bloome. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21st at David Bloome’s residence on West Dominion Boulevard in Columbus, Ohio.
