Irving Chasin Obituary (1914 - 2010)

Irving Chasin, age 96, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha. He is survived by his wife, Florence Chasin; daughter, Deborah (Simon) Ritchken, of Del Mar, CA; sons, Gary, of Columbus, Kenneth (Judy), of Calabasas, CA, and Julian (Chiyoko) Chasin, of Torrance, CA; grandchildren, David, Michael, Brandon, Zachary, Zoe, Natasha, Bettye Jane, Cathy; great-grandchildren, Presley, Evan, Ryan, Jacob, Olivia, Alexa, Ava. Irving was a longtime member of Congregation Agudas Achim and B'nai B’rith. He belonged to both the National and Ohio Pawn Brokers Association. Irving was born on Valentine’s Day, 1914, in Logan Ohio, the son of Harry and Goldie Chasin. He formally settled in Columbus in 1950 and has been involved in both the business and Jewish communities since that time. Having worked up until late December of last year, Irving remained an integral part of the business he began in 1950, Uncle Sam’s Pawn Shop, now on East Main Street. His customers often said that he was the “poor man’s champion”. Irv will be long remembered for his integrity, courtesy, generosity, and loving manner. Funeral service 10:30 AM Sunday, September 12, 2010 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St., with Rabbi Melissa Crespy officiating. Burial to follow at New Agudas Achim Cemetery.
