Harry "Hot Dog Harry" Hirschinger Obituary (1935 - 2012)

Harry Hirschinger, 77, passed away on May 19, 2012. He was born in Amsterdam after his parents escaped Nazi Germany during the Holocaust, May 3, 1935 and then moved to the New York, NY in 1940. Harry married Paulanne Azorin in 1966 moved to Columbus and had 3 beautiful children, David, Pamela and Steven. After their divorce, Harry married Kathyrn Smith Holsinger in 1996. His loving, dedicated wife cared for him faithfully and graciously before he returned to God. Harry was a veteran who served his country and was well known around the world as HOT DOG HARRY. Harry started a non-profit organization Operation America Loves You and served hot dogs to American troops in foreign countries. He took donated food and drinks to the troops with letters and prayers from all the soldiers families during the holidays where soldiers were encouraged and reassured by the people who loved and supported them. The soldiers who were standing on the frontlines protecting the United States and saving lives were deeply touched by Harry's dedication and love to serve them. Harry was a fantastic dad who dedicated his life to raising his children. He was a hardworking man who never had financial excess in life but instead offered his children the most valuable things that money can't buy. He taught them to love Israel and their heritage. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kurt Hirschinger and step daughter, Kanda Slone. He is survived by his precious wife, Kathyrn; children, David, Pamela (Joel) and Steven; step son, Jamie Holsinger; brother, Walter (Evy) Hirschinger and his step grandchildren, John Michael Slone and Ella Holsinger. Funeral service 12pm on Monday, May 21st at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Areyah Kaltmann officiating. Interment, New Agudas Achim Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the home of Mike and Paulanne Rosen immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care.
