Gerhard Cohn Obituary (1920 - 2014)

Gerhard Cohn, age 93, passed away on June 16, 2014 in Columbus. Preceded in death by his wife Julia in 1974 and parents, Otto and Ella Cohn. He is survived by his daughters, Eva (William) McDonald of Charlottesville, VA and Jeannette (John) Petten of Galena, OH; son Edward (Brenda) Cohn of Sunbury, OH; grandchildren, Aaron (Irene) Petten, Ashley (Eric) Limkemann, Adele (Andrew) Neiburg, Rachel (Greg) Smith and Zachary Cohn; and great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Bryson, Landon and Sidney. Gerhard was born July 24, 1920 in Germany. Gerhard was forced into slave labor and concentration camps for over three years. He married Julia in Germany upon liberation, and immigrated to Columbus, Ohio, United States in 1949. Gerhard was a Commercial Artist in the advertising industry. Gerhard documented his life as a Holocaust Survivor with a video for the Spielberg Shoah Foundation and the U.S. Holocaust Museum. Family will greet friends from Noon to 1:00pm followed by Chapel services at 1:00pm on Thursday, June19 at Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E. Main St., with Rabbi Mitchell Levine officiating with burial at New Agudas Achim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio or Jewish Family Services.
