Fay Oppenheimer Obituary (1921

Fay Oppenheimer died November 21, 2010 in County Clare, Ireland. Born February 4, 1921, in Leeds, England, she came to the United States at the age of four. She grew up in Phoenixville, PA, where here father, Rabbi Hyman Friedman was spiritual leader of the local synagogue. Through her life she was unusually active-- golfing, bowling, swimming, playing bridge, and practicing yoga daily before it became popular. In middle age she slowly lost her vision due to side effects of a new allergy drug, but she soldiered on, a smile on her face throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel, former president of Congregation Tifereth Israel and founder of the Ohio Institute of Technology, currently the Columbus campus of DeVry Institute. Survived by her daughter, Anita (Tommy) Hayes of County Clare, Ireland; son, Dennis (Laura) Oppenheimer of New York and 6 grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at 12:30PM on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the NEW TIFERETH ISRAEL CEMETERY, with Rabbi Harold Berman officiating.
