Fanny K. Schulte

–

Pickerington, Ohio

Fanny Schulte, age 71, passed away on Friday, August 10, surrounded by family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Leonhard and Mina Katz. She is survived by her husband, Sheldon Robert Schulte; daughter, Miriam (Jon) Segaloff; sons, Daniel (Carol) Schulte, Ben (Patricia) Schulte and David Schulte; sister, Sally (Martin) Daner; brother, Richard (Jeri) Katz; grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, Samantha, Katie, Adam and Jordan; nieces and nephew.

Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, her family relocated to New Jersey in 1949. She and Bob were married June 5, 1960, at Congregation Ohav Emet in New Brunswick. The family relocated to central Ohio in 1971 and eventually settled in Bexley where they resided for nearly 20 years.

While raising her family and caring for the children of numerous others, she studied accounting at Franklin University, where she graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration. She worked a number of jobs, but made a career at the Ohio Department of Education, where she worked for more than 20 years as a fiscal consultant in the school foods program. A lifelong learner, she returned to school at The Ohio State University, where in 1993 she earned a Master’s degree in public policy. In 2010, she graduated from the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.

All who had the opportunity to know her found her engaging, witty and generous. She smiled easily and often and always knew the right thing to say. She loved to shop and could never pass up a bargain, especially if she could make it a gift. She and Bob were experienced travelers and particularly loved to take cruise vacations, most recently to Hawaii.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St., with Rabbi Howard Apothaker of Temple Beth Shalom officiating. Shiva will be observed at the Schulte residence through Tuesday night. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Beth Shalom, 5089 Johnstown Rd, New Albany, OH 43054 or the Columbus Jewish Federation, 1175 College Ave, Columbus, OH 43209.
