Evelyn S. Wasserstrom Obituary (1914 - 2013)

Evelyn S. Wasserstrom, age 98, passed away on August 24, 2013. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kate Strauss; husband, Sam Wasserstrom; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Cecil Gordon. She is survived by her son, Herb Wasserstrom; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Rabbi Merrill Shapiro; grandchildren, Sara and Rabbi William Plevan and Amy and Kenny Solomon; great grandchildren, Ariel, Samantha, Maya, Joshua and Eva. Evelyn became known as the "mitten lady" for crocheting and selling 20,000 pairs of mittens and donating all of the proceeds to various charities. She was a member of Cong. Tifereth Israel and volunteered for the Columbus American Cancer Society since the 1950's. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 27th at OLD TIFERETH ISRAEL CEMETERY, S.E. corner of Alum Creek Dr. and Frebis Ave. with Rabbi Merrill Shapiro officiating. Shiva will be observed at Creekside at the Village. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Columbus Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 5555 Franz Rd., Dublin, OH 43017.
