Dr. Allen S. Birrer Obituary (1938 - 2013)

Dr. Allen S. Birrer, age 75, born in Camden, NJ, and Columbus resident since 1965, passed away on September 26, 2013. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rose Birrer and his loving wife, Ann Birrer. He is survived by his dedicated children, Scott (Anya) Birrer and Emmi (Francois) Micallef, sister, Iris Levy; grandchild, Isabelle Rose; step grandchildren, Isla and Antoine. Allen was a graduate of College of Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery in 1965, life member and past president of the American Osteopathic Assoc. and the Ohio Osteopathic Assoc; member and fellow of the American College of General Practitioners; 25 years of service as Sr. Staff Member and Vice President of Dept. of General Practice at Doctor's Hospital; clinical professor of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine; founder of United Health Plan, Ohio's 1st Health Maintenance Organization. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, September 29th at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Eric Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Birrer residence immediately following burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to Ballet Met or The Ohio Arts Council. Loved and admired by his family and surrounded by many wonderful friends, he will be honored and missed.
