Alexander Lentsner

–

Columbus, Ohio

The Lentsner-Petrov family is mourning the unexpected death of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Alexander “Alex” Lentsner, 83, of Columbus, Ohio. Alex passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Grant Medical Center from severe brain injuries caused by a catastrophic car accident.
A former career officer, a gentleman, an accomplished professional in mechanical engineering, and a fervent life-long athlete, Alex had always lived his life to the very fullest.

Born in 1940 in Moscow, former Soviet Union, Alex lost his father in World War II when he was just one year old and was raised by a single mother, Fenya Kuperman. After graduating from high school, Alex embarked on a military career, culminating in a master's degree in military and mechanical engineering. At age 45, Alex retired from the military service at the rank of colonel and shortly after, he and his family made a decision to immigrate to the United States due to his oldest daughter’s serious health concerns. A stronghold of his family, and a person driven by love, purpose and challenge, Alex started anew, and soon had held a series of upper-level positions in facilities engineering throughout the Greater Columbus area. When finally retiring from his second career in his late 70s, Alex began his third career — one of an unofficial fitness guru at the Diamond Family Jewish Community Center.
As a young man, Alex developed his natural athletic gifts, first becoming a junior division boxing champion, then a hockey player, a martial arts specialist, and, throughout his life and up to age 70, a passionate soccer player. Until just 10 days ago, every weekday at 3:00pm, Alex could be easily spotted in the gym of JCC, performing an intense workout routine that inspired fellow fitness enthusiasts half his age, as well as the trainers working on the floor.

Alex loved everything that he chose to do, but most of all, Alex loved his family, and was ready to sacrifice anything for his children and grandchildren’s health and happiness.
Alex is terribly missed by his grieving family — his wife Faina Lentsner, his daughters Dina Lentsner and Alla Petrov, his son-in-law Mikhail Petrov, his granddaughters Sophia and Bronya Petrov, his brother-in-law Vladimir Kogan, and the rest of Alex’s loving extended family and close friends.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at New Agudas Achim Cemetery, 2565 Performance Way. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alex’s memory may be made to JCC Columbus Diamond Fitness Center (www.columbusjcc.org)
