Jack L. Madison Obituary (2002 - 2023)

Jack Lewin Madison, age 20, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2023. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Milton Lewin and grandmother, Lois (Harry) Greenblott. He is survived by his parents, Andrew and Carrie Madison; sister, Marissa Madison; grandfather, David (Papa) Madison; grandmother, Elaine (Meme) Lewin Uncle Adam and Aunt Stephanie Lewin and cousins Lola, Mila and Gage; Aunt Connie and Uncle Craig Tuckerman and cousins, Georgia, Arie and Charlie; Uncle Tim Madison (Aunt Jenny) and children, Jonah, Grace, Natalie, Canaan and Tess; Aunt Patti and Uncle Alan Masarek and cousins, Jared and Jordan (Eric) Keller (and children, Madison and Reese), Uncle Ken and Aunt Lori Greenblott and children, Ian, Mia, Amy and Zoe; Uncle Stanley and Aunt Candy Greenblott and children, Austin and Adam; and many, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 5 at Congregation Tifereth Israel, 1354 E. Broad St. Columbus Ohio. Shiva will be observed at the home of Carrie and Andrew Madison on Thursday from 5-8 PM, Friday 2-5 PM and Sunday 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to The Jack Madison Fund for Students in Need c/o the Columbus Academy, 4300 Cherry Bottom Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A fund in Jack's name is also being set up to help support underserved youth play tennis, or please donate to the charity of your choice. Jack was born in Bexley, Ohio, and was welcomed into the world with open and loving arms. He went to preschool at the Jewish Community Center and started Columbus Academy in Pre-K, where he was a “lifer”. He was passionate about tennis, and had an extremely successful playing career where, with his cousin Arie Tuckerman, played in the State Doubles Finals two years in a row. At Academy, he developed a continued passion for painting; we’ll cherish his paintings forever. Jack then attended Colorado College, where in his brief year and a half made dear friends for life. He went on to play tennis in college, but hernia complications kept him off the court, until this upcoming season where he was incredibly excited to play with his team. He told us recently that though he loved Colorado, his heart was in Columbus. He loved being with his family and friends when home. Jack planned to declare as a History Major and Journalism Minor, with the dream of coming back to his Alma Mater and teaching History. He loved to write about music, and was an Editor of the Catalyst, his college newspaper. He interviewed many musicians and renowned groups, and had multiple reviews published. He was excited to go on a family vacation to Siesta Key this week and “be with the family, sit on the balcony, watch the ocean, read and write.” He loved playing the guitar and practiced daily. Jack also loved the outdoors and spent many nights by the campfire with his dear friends. This was written by Colorado College in the announcement of his passing. It describes him best. "Jack was fascinated by language and words; sound and music, and was crazy about art. He was a thoughtful writer, with his writing appearing in the Catalyst and through the SoCC Blog which he managed. Jack encouraged our community to reflect and think more deeply – not to mention to listen to new artists. He loved tennis and being part of the tennis team at CC. He engaged fully with campus life in a myriad of ways, embracing CC to the fullest. Jack was observant, super imaginative, creative, and independent minded. His humor, deep thinking, and generous spirit was a gift in his friendships and to all of us." Andy, Carrie, and Marissa, as well as all his family and friends, will forever miss Jack. He touched so many people with his warmth, humor, and love. We are so grateful for the time we had with him and will always carry his memory with honor.
